Save Energy & Wear Wool: Energy & Motivation - Something I Wrote for the Southwester.

Good Morning From My Life in The Wind.

The rain has been so relentless that I am starting to wish I’d never complained about the wind. I think I prefer wind to rain now.

Sometimes I lose my nerve about sending a newsletter. If it’s too much about me, I think “oh stop wasting people’s time / it’s too self indulgent communicating your thoughts about rebounders and greying hair”. I draft it then sit on it then dither until I finally get a grip and send it. And without fail it is always those newsletters that generate a huge response.

The last one I sent solicited so many replies. People thanking me for writing it. I’m always amazed. I guess it’s just normal relatable musings that make people think “oh it’s not just me” (we are all fed up of our chickens 😂).

The impact this has on me -  a one woman show  attempting to draft non-time wasting content, vaguely related to jumper sales - is HUGE. It’s data which = confidence. People want to read my emails. This, for me, is better than a pay rise or a manager telling me I’ve done well.

I’ve got a newsletter lined up about things I’ve learned since being self-employed but one of the biggest unexpected bonuses of working for myself  - which is mostly terrifying - is that the confidence boost I get from the jumper feedback and email replies is unparalleled with anything I ever experienced in the traditional working world (and I did quite well in that world).

So - many thanks for your replies. And if you are too scared to start something for fear of what people might think - trust me, when you start getting this sort of ‘data’, those worries - the ones about the girls from school or your neighbours seeing your content - will fade rapidly.

Below is an article I wrote for the Southwester last year.
